Dear 10th Grade Students,

Hello, and welcome to 10^th grade! My name is Ms. Eggleston, and I’m writing to welcome you to PCHS and to our advisory. As your advisor, it’s my job to help you transition to 10^th grade at PCHS and to help answer any questions you have. In this letter, I’ll tell you a little about myself, what you can expect this year, and what you should do to be prepared for the first day of school.

I joined Paul Cuffee High School last year, and absolutely loved teaching chemistry and working with Cuffee students. I grew up in Washington, DC, where my younger brother and parents still live. I moved to New Hampshire to attend Dartmouth College and study Neuroscience. Neuroscience is the science of the brain, and while in college I researched how exercise affects how you think. I decided to become a teacher after graduating from college, and just moved to Providence a year ago. I am excited to continue exploring New England, and in my free time I love to hike, read mysteries, and continue learning how science affects our daily lives. I’m looking forward to learning about your interests and passions this year in advisory.

Your advisory at Paul Cuffee is like your home base. It’s where you’ll spend time bonding with your classmates, talking about your future, and getting answers to questions that aren’t covered in class. I am 100% committed to supporting you however I can this year, whether it’s academically or personally. Together, we will work hard to make sure that each one of you is on track to meeting your goals. In addition to being your advisor, I am also the 10^th grade chemistry teacher. I will be teaching chemistry to all 10^th graders, and I expect to have a lot of fun exploring science together this year. You will be the first class of Cuffee Students to use the new science lab, which means you have a lot of exciting experiments ahead of you!

At this point in the summer, you should have begun your summer homework. Handing in your completed summer homework is an important part of starting high school and will let you start off all your classes on the right foot. If you have any questions about your summer homework, be sure to email me at reggleston@paulcuffee.org or text me at 401-680-0273. I will also be at the high school almost every day starting the week of August 12th. If you want personal help on your homework, or just want to say “Hi,” feel free to email me to set up a time to meet. Just make sure you let me know you’re coming before you show up.

I can’t wait to get to know you this year. Entering 10^th grade is a huge step on the road to becoming a high school graduate, a college graduate, and a successful adult. If you have a moment this summer, please be sure to send me an email and introduce yourself. I’d love to learn a little bit about you and answer any questions you may have. I’ll see you August 28!   I hope you have a fun, productive, and relaxing end to your summer!
